Apply for Membership

Application for membership can be self-initiated or proposed by any existing DRC member and will be considered by the DRC Executive Committee. Criteria for inclusion include the following:

  • Concurrence of the candidate’s research program with DRC programs and goals.
  • Extramural, peer-reviewed funding (with priority given to NIH funding), including a current DRC P&F grant.
  • Evidence that the candidate will enhance DRC goals by interacting with DRC members and by contributing to and benefiting from DRC activities (Enrichment Program, Cores, and P&F).

DRC membership is reviewed annually by the Program Directors. Members that no longer fit the criteria above will be reviewed by the DRC Executive Committee and considered for removal.

Extramural funding is important for Core Use (for co-pays), but an exception will be made for NIs and ESIs who have start-up funds. A lack of current extramural funding is not considered a reason to exclude a potential member that fits the other two criteria well, with the hope that interactions will help members find extramural funding, perhaps in collaboration with other members. This policy allows us to recruit ESIs and NIs that can benefit from mentoring and Workforce Development (see that section below). However, members without extramural funds for three consecutive years will be removed until they obtain extramural funding.
